From PDFs to multi-site: Digitising Victoria’s 10 Regional Catchment Management Strategies

WHO

There are 10 Catchment Management Authorities (CMA) in Victoria. Each CMA produces a Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) for their area. The strategies are required by the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994. They bring government, organisations and communities together and guide their collective efforts to protect and improve the health of the land, water and biodiversity resources that are vital for vibrant, prosperous and sustainable communities and environments.

NEED

Each CMA produces Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) in print approximately 80 pages long. This is not accessible nor dynamic or changable.

A Regional Catchment Strategies (RCS) online platform sought to:

  • invite community and stakeholder feedback to draft versions

  • extend the reach of the RCS

  • allow staff to author content on an ongoing basis to keep the RCS current

  • uphold the commitment of CMAs to have digital access to their RCS

SOLUTION

Boojum worked with the ten Victorian Catchment Management Authorities (CMAs) to create a Regional Catchment Strategies (RCS) online platform. A 10 website multi-site was created with WordPress CMS. It allows each CMA to author the content for its RCS website and brings all the RCS sites together in a Victoria-wide map for the landing page.

Boojum built the site to ensure their was a balance of consistency and freedom across each RCS. We achieved this with:

  • a custom technical build: print functionality, authoring of banners, and the ability to add home page alerts

  • developing page and information architecture for the multi-site

  • stakeholder management

  • WordPress author training

  • visual design
